Inaugurated in 1997, the Cuxport terminal area includes six berths on two terminals, the Europakai and the Lübbertkai, in the Port of Cuxhaven. Located in the Elbe estuary, Cuxhaven has close transport routes to Hamburg along the river Elbe, as well as the Baltic Sea via the Kiel Canal and international deepsea and shortsea connections.

The shareholders of Cuxport are Rhenus SE & Co. KG in Holzwickede near Dortmund, with a 74.9 percent share, and HHLA Container Terminals Gesellschaft mbH in Hamburg with the remaining 25.1 percent.
